Minlaung

Minlaung
In the Burmese (Myanmar) language, an "imminent king," a person destined (from the perspective of Buddhism, through his accumulation of superior merit or kutho) to become ruler of the country, overthrowing the reigning monarch. The emergence of a minlaung was believed to be accompanied by special omens and signs; in the months following the General Election of May 27, 1990, many Burmese believed that Aung San Suu Kyi had assumed this role.
